Synopsis

Buku ini, “Memanfaatkan Modal Sosial untuk Peningkatan Kesehatan Masyarakat,” bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman yang komprehensif tentang bagaimana modal sosial dapat dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan hasil kesehatan masyarakat. Ini disusun untuk memandu pembaca melalui landasan teoritis, bukti empiris, dan aplikasi praktis modal sosial dalam konteks kesehatan masyarakat.

Buku ini dimulai dengan eksplorasi konsep modal sosial, menelusuri akar sejarah dan perkembangan teoretisnya. Bab pertama menggali kontribusi para ahli teori kunci seperti Loury, Coleman, Bourdieu, Putnam, dan Kawachi, yang telah membentuk pemahaman kita tentang modal sosial dan implikasinya terhadap kesehatan. Bagian ini menyediakan latar belakang dengan mendefinisikan modal sosial dan menguraikan komponen intinya: kepercayaan, jaringan, dan norma[1]norma timbal balik.

Mengikuti landasan teoritis, bab-bab berikutnya memeriksa hubungan antara modal sosial dan kesehatan. Studi empiris dan contoh kasus disajikan untuk menggambarkan bagaimana modal sosial memengaruhi berbagai hasil kesehatan baik di tingkat individu maupun masyarakat. Buku ini membahas mekanisme di mana modal sosial beroperasi, seperti meningkatkan dukungan sosial, memfasilitasi aliran informasi kesehatan, dan mempromosikan perilaku sehat. Selain itu, menyoroti peran modal sosial dalam mengatasi kesenjangan kesehatan dan mendorong kesetaraan kesehatan.

Bagian terakhir dari buku ini berfokus pada strategi praktis untuk membangun dan memperkuat modal sosial dalam masyarakat. Ini mencakup studi kasus terperinci tentang intervensi kesehatan masyarakat yang berhasil melalui pemanfaatan modal sosial untuk mencapai hasil positif. Contoh-contoh ini memberikan wawasan yang dapat ditindaklanjuti bagi pembuat kebijakan, praktisi kesehatan masyarakat, dan tokoh masyarakat tentang bagaimana merancang dan mengimplementasikan program yang meningkatkan modal sosial.

Akhirnya, buku ini membahas tantangan dan kritik yang terkait dengan konsep modal sosial. Ini mengakui keterbatasan dan potensi kerugian modal sosial, seperti risiko pengucilan sosial dan kompleksitas pengukuran modal sosial secara akurat. Tidak lupa, buku ini juga menyajikan studi kasus bukti empiris peran modal sosial dalam pencegahan HIV pada kelompok perempuan pekerja seks (PPS) di Bali. Tinjauan ini merupakan hasil penelitian bertahun-tahun dari penulis dalam peta jalan penelitiannya sejak menempuh studi doktor di Flinders University Australia. Buku ini diakhiri dengan diskusi tentang arah masa depan dalam penelitian modal sosial, menekankan perlunya eksplorasi dan inovasi berkelanjutan di bidang ini untuk memaksimalkan potensi manfaatnya bagi kesehatan masyarakat.

Dengan menggabungkan wawasan teoritis dan bukti empiris, buku ini bertujuan untuk berfungsi sebagai sumber daya berharga bagi siapa saja yang tertarik untuk memahami dan memanfaatkan kekuatan modal sosial untuk meningkatkan kesehatan masyarakat.

Pada akhirnya, buku teks ini diharapkan dapat menjadi rujukan bagi siswa di bidang kesehatan masyarakat atau mahasiswa ilmu sosial dan ilmu budaya yang mempelajari penerapan teori modal sosial dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat.
