Synopsis

Praktik pengobatan terapi intensif berada di garis depan respons pengobatan dan pemantauan. Substrat perawatan ini adalah pasien sakit kritis yang, menurut definisi, berada pada batas cadangan fisiologisnya. Pasien membutuhkan intervensi yang mengubah hidup segera, agresif tetapi seimbang untuk meminimalkan aspek merugikan dari penyakit akut dan mempercepat pemulihan. Keputusan pengobatan dan respons terhadap terapi biasanya dinilai dengan ukuran fungsi fisiologis, seperti halnya pemantauan respirasi.

Perawatan dan pemantauan terus berkembang dan membutuhkan pengetahuan yang mendalam tentang pengoperasian instrumen yang kompleks. Selanjutnya, teknik tersebut perlu diterapkan dengan cepat dan benar di samping tempat tidur. Namun, bagaimana seseorang menggunakan informasi dari pemantauan dan pedoman pengobatan seringkali tidak jelas dan jarang didukung oleh uji klinis prospektif. Nyatanya, klinisi terpaksa bergantung terutama pada prinsip-prinsip fisiologis dalam menentukan pengobatan terbaik dan respons terhadap terapi. Buku ini diharapkan dapat menjadi pedoman dasar dan merintis standarisasi praktik pemantauan dalam terapi intensif ke depannya.
